Student demonstration in Buea
Angry students of the University of Buea staged a massive protest in all the streets of Buea, capital of the South West Region of Cameroon yesterday , November 28, 2016.
Added to the hundreds gendarmes already deployed for the Female CAN by the government , another Hundreds of policemen and gendarmes were deployed to face a strike initiated by the University students of the city,alafnet.com gathered.
Among other demands the students are unhappy with the non- Payment of the Presidential grants of academic excellence to students and request a cancellation of tuition fees (10,000 francs), imposed on all late registration by students.
Almost all activities including the those of the Cameroon 2016 African Women’s Football Cup, in group B, based in Limbe were disrupted as a result.
alafnet.com understands that because of the strike in Buea , officials of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) had some delays before the start of the press conference organized as a prelude to the match of the second semi-final between Nigeria and South Africa, scheduled for 7pm on the 29th of November 2016.
It is also reported that to leave the mountain hotel Parliamentary flats in Buea where they lodged for Omnisports stadium Limbe, Both teams needed a heavily Armed security escorts.More photos and video of the UB students strike
In another news taxi drivers have also announced a strike in the next few days.
