After the untimely death of Cuba’s Fidel Castro on Nov. 25, political pundits have occupied their time evaluating his place in history.
Many consider the revolutionary a totalitarian dictator hellbent on dominating his people. Others view the man as a complex freedom fighter who stood against Western oppression of all kinds.
While history will be the final judge on his legacy, it is undeniable that Castro helped Black people across the diaspora fight for freedom from systematic white oppression.
