The Senior Divisional Officer of Fako Division in the South West region, Zang III has signed a decision suspending the elective General Assembly previewed for this February 17 and 18 at the Limbe City Council hall.
The suspension comes following an appeal by host division, Fako which argued that the Present Executives of the South West Chiefs Conference is trying to violate the constitution of the body by imposing conditions for them to choose their leader.
Going by the constitution, Chiefs of Fako Division are supposed to present their candidate who will automatically become the next President of South West Chiefs Conference.
Last year after conduction an election, HRH Njombe Johnson won the elections and was presented as candidate for the top position which has suffered postponement. But some First class chiefs say a third class Chief like Njombe Johnson of Wokaka village cannot be their chief because he is below their standards in the ladder of chiefs.
The social tension mounting within the South West Chiefs conference is pregnant with camps formed to fight for the post of Presidency.
According to Njombe Johnson SWECC should not meddle into their internal affairs because they are covered by Constitution. He has maintained his candidacy for the Post of president which according to rule will simply validated because he is the candidate of Fako division.
The new date of the elections has not been determined.
