Mauritius Kamto, President of the Movement for the Renaissance of Cameroon (MRC) is calling for the resignation of Rector of the University of Buea(UB).
In the press release signed by the president of MRC of which alafnet.com obtained a copy, He requests the students of UB to file a complaint against their tormentors.
“After I expressed my sad feelings on 23 November on the events that shook the Northwest Region including Bamenda, once again it is with great difficulty that I speak to you about the savage police repression during student demonstration of 28 November 2016 on the campus of the University of Buea, the capital of the South West Region, “said Maurice Kamto in the press release.
Alafnet.com recalls that after the lawyers and teachers, students of the University of Buea protested against the presidential award of Excellence which any student with an average equal or greater than 12 to 20,is entitled to the sum of 50 000 FCFA.
Following the demonstration, About 150 students were arrested and bundled in trucks like sardines on Monday. Reacting to this, Maurice Kamto wrote: “freedom of expression is a constitutional principle in our country. Therefore students have every right to peacefully express their views on all matters relating to their studies.”.
He continues: ” On Monday, November 28, 2016 at the request of the Vice Chancellor, the security launched an assault on the campus and private residences Student. These forces tortured students cruely in an inhumane and degrading manner.
Also, that all leaders and perpetrators of this gross violations are accountable for their crimes.The government should immediately order an investigation, find and punish those guilty. The Vice-Chancellor of the University Buea must resign or be removed from office as soon as possible.he wrote.
