#BringBackOurGirls group has asked everyone to wear read on Thursday August 27 on which day it will be holding a rally to recognise the 500th day during which the girls have been held in captivity.   On April 14 2014, Boko Haram abducted about 234 schoolgirls from their boarding school in Borno State as they slept at night and whisked them off to an unknown location. On the way, one of the vehicles broke down and about a dozen of the girls managed to escape, while three months later, local hunters rescued another 30 after stumbling on their camp.   However, about 200 of the pupils from Government Girls Secondary School Chibok still remain unaccounted for and have been held by Boko Haram since. President Muhammadu Buhari has since assuming office on May 29 tasked the Nigerian military with rescuing the girls and the BringBackOurGirls group says it is confident they will be freed.   According to the group, its confidence has been boosted by some pragmatic steps being taken by the Buhari administration recently. Unveiling a series of activities it intends to carry out to mark 500 days of the girls’ captivity, the BringBackOurGirls group said the confidence of its members has been rekindled and they are assured that sooner than later the girls shall return, especially with the president’s December 2015 deadline to the military to defeat Boko Haram.   However, the BringBackOurGirls group said even though it is ever hopeful and expectant of the rescue of the girls, it will organise a global week of action to commemorate the tragedy of their abduction. It has enjoined everyone to wear red, or at least a touch of red in the memory and honour of the girls on August 27.   Group coordinator Oby Ezekwesili, said: “This week of events is to remind the world that our 219 #ChibokGirls are still in captivity and not yet back 500 days on and for everyone to call on their governments to do something to help bring them back. Not only governments, everyone can do something however little, to keep their tragedy of their abduction alive and to keep the hope that we can have them back.    “During this special global week of action, in Abuja there will be a diversity of activities, including events like, Asr prayers this Friday at the Unity Fountain our usual meeting venue, as well as a special prayer service at the same venue on Sunday. Tree planting, an engagement with the UN secretary general at the Unity Fountain, march by #ChibokGirls ambassadors, and so forth.”   “We also solicit that you carry out any activity or activities that suit your convenience for this purpose. It could be a march, candle light vigil, tying a red ribbon, delivering letters to elected representatives, etc and also, be kind to remember sharing images of the events using the hashtags.”   According to the group, Friday, August 21 will mark the beginning of its Global Week of Action #GWA, themed 500 Days On, Chibok Girls – Crying To Be Rescued, Never To Be Forgotten. The group is encouraging Nigerians on social media to use the hashtags #GWA #500DaysOn #ChibokGirls #CryingToBeRescued #NeverToBeForgotten #BringBackOurGirls to commemorate the global week of action. – See more at: http://www.nigerianwatch.com/news/7597-bring-back-our-girls-group-asks-everyone-to-wear-red-on-august-27-to-mark-500-days#sthash.6WjyfsM5.dpuf
